WHAT A SAD, SAD MOMENT! WHAT A SHAMEFUL MOMENT FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT! WHAT A DISAPPOINTING FIGURE THEY PAINT OF THEMSELVES! CAN’T EVEN CONTROL A BUNCH OF GUN-SLINGIN’ HICKS!

(And just when we thought things were starting to look up in the area. SIGH!)

Once a symbol of American freedom and tradition, they’ve become mere targets for some locals. Is there a lesson in this massacre? Is this a symbol of what’s happening to the very concept of American freedom and tradition? Is this a symptom of the deterioration of American respect for life?

BUT IT MAKES US FEEL REAL SICK!

This just in — and unconfirmed but from a reliable source — local police departments respond to the presence of buffalo on a local property. The animals apparently swam across the Hudson River and arrived on a large piece of property on 9W where they apparently were grazing. Someone called it in to the local police and they made an appearance as if there were a major terrorist threat. Albany County Sheriff’s deputies, NY State Troopers. But worse still, a bunch of locals showed up with rifles and had a good ol’ time shooting fish in a barrel. And the police couldn’t control the yahoos! (Now confirmed by an eyewitness call in and several news media reports.)

Americans fear and deny death but love to kill…

It seems bizarrely contradictory, even schizoid, that in a country, the United States, where denial of death is so rampant, the thing we seem to do best no matter where we go is KILL. Nationally, we can’t even find most of the places we bomb on a regular basis, and we make lame excuses for killing our own people when playing our cowardly drone games (note recent news); locally, road-kill seems to be the local pastime; and our police? Well, let’s just say they really need some training on when to shout and when not to shoot. That applies to situations involving human beings and, as today’s events demonstrate, also to other creatures. Americans fear and deny death but love to kill. Think about that for a minute and then read on.

All dead — at least fifteen dead bison. FIFTEEN!!! That’s what we pay our law enforcement to allow. KILL. Well, if they’re not themselves shooting minorities, who would sue if they got tranquilized — so a dead man can’t sue, we figure. But why allow 15 beautiful creatures to be shot — some not being killed immediately but allowed to thrash around in the brush before dying — because they’re slowing down traffic? Do we shoot Carver Laraway’s trucks? They stop traffic. And they make a mess out of our air and our roads. Do we shoot them because they’re a menace to public safety or slowing traffic?

It’s a sorry picture we have of our law enforcement and a scandal when we have to admit that Albany County Sheriff’s deputies and New York State Troopers can’t figure out a better plan than bullets and blood. It’s a pitiful lesson we teach our children when we teach that rather than appreciate majestic beauty and accept a little slowdown in traffic, it’s better to let a bunch of dangerous locals blow the creatures away. We can reroute traffic and close streets for paving operations or for some visiting VIP-dildo but when it comes to majestic life, blow it away. But the way it was done under law enforcement monitoriing and in the presence of law enforcement is where to look for the real scandal.

SHAME ON YOU BOTH!

Why not give the New York State Police, Troop G, a call and, while you’re doing that, plan to call the Albany County Sheriff’s Department, to tell them how disgusted you are at this stupidity. There’s a video on News Center 6 — but of course they don’t show the carnage, that would be too much for the sensitive among us. But WNYT, News Center 13, tells the real story (go to Escaped bison shot in Coeymans), and if you go to that site, you will read:

“A state police helicopter was brought in to help track the herd that continued to roam through the woods and streets in Selkirk — that was until they were cornered in a ravine near County Route 101.

“That’s where police say shooters hired by the farm owners started taking the bison down one by one.

“However, things got heated between one of the shooters and Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple, who wasn’t happy with the way the operation was going. Apple says the man was shooting blindly into the woods and left one animal wounded and thrashing around the river bed — a sheriff’s deputy grabbed the man’s rifle and he was taken away in custody.

“We ordered him to stop. He refused. I put him against the truck and detained him,” Apple explained.

“That man was released a short time later. Police are still trying to figure out possible charges. Authorities wanted to stress they did not want to kill the bison. They just had no choice given the situation.”

Real men, aren’t they? Real American versions of heroes …

Seems to us that 15 bison “cornered in a ravine” didn’t pose much of a threat to anyone and made it really easy to simply pick them off, mothers, calves, all of them. “Cornered in a ravine.” Real men, aren’t they? Real American versions of heroes, aren’t they?

Sort of reminds us of American drones being controlled by some “hero” 3 or 4 thousand miles away from the actual target, shooting a missile and killing a hundred or so innocent civilians. Collateral damage we call it. Or the Israelis shelling entire neighborhoods or attacking ghetto residents with tanks and bulldozers. Crowd control we call it. Or detaining hundreds without trial in a remote prison camp or operating secret prison camps with no due process. War on terrorism, we call it. How about National Guardsmen shooting unarmed students or the FBI massacring a religious community (Whackos in Waco). War on subversives we call it. But if another country, another culture does similar? Violation of human rights we call it. The bison and their massacre at the hands of impotent law enforcement and lunatics with guns is just a metaphor, a small but meaningful picture of what we’ve become as Americans, as sub-human beings.

But let someone write a bad check or protest unfair taxation and you all jump on the bandwagon and howl together: “Lynch’em!“ (better him or her than us)! All distraction, all to get you feeble minds off the crooks in village, town, city hall and your crooked egomaniac governors, congressmen, and president. We say “Lynch them!” And leave the poor beasts to wander and to graze…even if it is a little inconvenient for you texter-at-the-wheel, or you party-liners-at-the-wheel, or you Carver heavy truckdrivers, or you wreckless drivers on Rt 144 passing on double lines, speeding, pulling out in front of oncoming traffic, and the list goes on. You can’t deny we’re right. But you will.

But where are the Albany County Sheriff’s deputies, the New York State Police, the Bethlehem Police, the Coeymans police when all of that is happening? Supervising the wanton slaughter of helpless animals by a bunch of gun-crazed vigilantes shooting into the landscape. Great picture isn’t it?

Question: How responsible is it for the police to allow a private citizen, Gem Farms of Schodack, to hire a bunch of armed halfwit merceneries to go out and shoot the animals? Who was supervising this Wild West riot with live ammo. While Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple’s attempt to control the blood-bath unleashed by a bunch of local yahoo hicks, the statement that “Authorities wanted to stress they did not want to kill the bison. They just had no choice given the situation“, does sort of raise one’s eyebrows. Aren’t they supposed to be trained to manage really difficult situations. And “given what situation?” The buffalo or the bunch of gun-slinging, blood-crazed hicks and yahoos, whom the Sheriff’s Department, the State Troopers and local police, Bethlehem and Coeymans, couldn’t control? Police, law enforcement “had no choice,” couldn’t control the situation? The damned fools were firing live ammunition from hunting rifles into God knows where!!!! Police shouting orders to stop and the guy doesn’t stop firing? What a bunch of jerks! (And when we read the News 13 article we were almost inclined to pull back on our criticism of the police responders.) So, our law enforcement professionals don’t know how to charge those dumbass yahoos? You piss in public and they have you in cuffs! Firing on a bunch of animals, wounding some, apparently in total disregard and indifferent to any public safety considerations! If the bison were a public safety concern what in hell do we call the shooters, Mr Apple?

THERE WAS A BETTER WAY TO HANDLE THE SITUATION BUT YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE GOTTEN YOUR ROCKS OFF THEN. SHAME ON YOU AND SHAME ON ALBANY COUNTY!!!

WE CERTAINLY HOPE THAT THE ANIMAL RIGHTS AND CONSERVATIONIST GROUPS PICK UP ON THIS AND GIVE YOU COWBOYS THE REAL WHOPPIN’ YOU DESERVE FOR THIS GAFFE! AND THE DUMBASS

So now, after you’ve shown what great law enforcement professionals can do when facing a situation that has a number of resolutions — one of the least desirable is shooting off a firearm — you’re going to call in equipment to remove the carcasses, Right? And then what? Are you going to butcher the carcasses for the meat and use it responsibly? No, we didn’t think so. PriceChopper and Shop’n Save would have a fit. They wouldn’t be able to sell their hormone-ridden factory-farm-raised poison meats. Well, just waste it and compost it in a big pit; then we can feed the hungry millions with Monsanto genetically modified foods and tax-dollars. Go figure.

Not a proud moment for any of us.

And if you read most of the comments left by readers on the News Center 13 article site for this, we’re pleased to say that most of the public agree with us. You can tranquilize and elephant, why not a bison? Thank you!

But speaking of interfering with traffic, on April 25, 2015, the day after the bison massacre, News Center 6 announces on its website,”Busy Albany interstate highway junction to close for 8 hours” (April 25, 2015 07:06 EDT ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A busy highway interchange along the Hudson River in Albany will be shut down for several hours over the weekend for construction work.” So, what now, do we send a bunch of hooligans with guns to solve the slowdown?
